Felix DeLeon, 80, Had a Passion for Gardening

Photo of Felix DeLeon Felix “Felipe” “Philip” DeLeon, 80 of Lorain, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 19, 2024, after a brief illness.

He was born on April 29th, 1943, in Yabucoa, Puerto Rico and resided in Lorain for many years.

Felix had a passion for gardening, if you knew Felix, you knew he had a green thumb. His love for gardening and planting spread through his whole house. He was an active member of Sacred Heart Chapel in Lorain, where he also helped maintain the roses at the church. He was also known as the one who helped take care of the rose garden at Lakeview Park. Felix worked for the City of Lorain for over 25 years. He enjoyed bowling, playing dominoes, golfing, and dancing. It was on the dance floor, is where he met the love of his life, Lillian.

Felix was also an umpire at Oakwood Park and enjoyed it for many years. In his early years, Felix also had a love for boxing and fought hard until the end.

Felix is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Lillian DeLeon (nee Soto) of Lorain; daughters, Katherine (Bland) Miles, and Sonia (Daniel) Rodriguez; son Felix DeLeon; grandchildren Cody, Mariah, and Daniel Jr.

Felix was preceded in death by his parents Antolin DeLeon, and Marcelina Vargas and his sister Francis DeJesus.

His family will receive friends at Richard J. Reidy Funeral Home, 1783 East 31st Street, South Lorain, Tuesday, January 23, 2023, from 4:00 to 8:00pm. Visitation will be held at Sacred Heart Chapel, 4301 Pearl Avenue, Lorain, on Wednesday, January 24th from 8:30 until 9:30am Mass of Christian Burial. Rev. father William Thaden, Pastor will officiate. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Lorain, Ohio.

His family suggests contributions to Sacred Heart Memorial Fund.
