5/16 -- The Avon Lake Symphonic Band is one of four bands from throughout the USA selected to perform at the 4th Annual Percy Grainger Wind Band Festival in Chicago's prestigious Orchestra Hall at Symphony Center. The students will have an opportunity to rehearse and perform in this famous hall, home of the Chicago Symphony, and participate in a clinic with Colonel Arnald Gabriel, Conductor of the United States Air Force Band (retired). 5/16 -- Firelands High School (Website | Profile) will be the challenger as Olmsted Falls High School goes for its second consecutive championship on the radio quiz program featuring academic teams from Lorain County high schools. On the Scholastic Games of Lorain County, a weekly series heard on WEOL (AM 930), the May 14th semifinal broadcast ended with a score of Firelands 420, North Ridgeville 390. It was an unusual competition in that it was won in the first three rounds of questions, those in which the fewest points are usually scored. Full Story
