David A. Partyka, 76, U.S. Navy Veteran

Photo of David A. Partyka David A. Partyka, age 76, of New Russia Township, passed away at Mercy New Life Hospice on the evening of Wednesday January 10, 2024 following an illness of one year.

Dave was born in Lorain on July 8, 1947 and was a graduate of Clearview High School; while enrolled there, he was a member of the Clipper varsity football team.

He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1966 and fulfilled duty assignments as a cryptographer and computer specialist based at the Atlantic Command Operations Control Center in Norfolk, Virginia. He was stationed on the USS Altair AKS-32. Upon his discharge in 1970 he was awarded the National Service Defense Medal. Dave continued his service as a member of the Naval Reserve until 1972.

Upon his return from the military, he joined the May Department Store Company where he served as a computer programmer and analyst at the Great Lakes Data Center in Sheffield Center. He retired from May Company / Macy’s in 2010 following a career that spanned four decades with the retailer.

In his free time, Dave enjoyed astronomy. He also used his expertise with computers to develop games for his own enjoyment and enrichment. In addition, he assisted others analyzing their computer code for errors or improvements. He did this free of charge. David was also an avid slide rule collector with over two hundred in his collection.

He is survived by his wife of fifty-one years Charlotte (nee Mosier), daughter Rhea King of Winchester, Virginia, and twin grandchildren Desmond and Dyson King. Dave also leaves sisters Sherrill Spruill (William, deceased), Sandi Uszynski (Chet, deceased), Diane Whaley (Rich), and Debi Stone, along with brother Ted Partyka, Jr. (Donna).

He was preceded in death by his father Theodore Partyka, Sr., mother Evalyn Partyka (nee Shinsky), and sister Marlene Simo.

Graveside services and military honors will take place in Ridge Hill Memorial Park in the spring. The date and time of services will be announced once arrangements have been finalized.
