Eleni Asimou, 98, Dedicated Homemaker

Photo of Eleni Asimou Eleni Asimou (nee Kollias), age 98, of Lorain, passed away peacefully at Malachi House in Cleveland on the evening of Tuesday December 5, 2023.

She was born in Thebes, Greece on August 28, 1925; Eleni immigrated to Cleveland in 1960 and later moved to Lorain where she was a resident for many years.

A dedicated homemaker, she was a member of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church where she volunteered extensively cooking and baking for various fundraisers. She was also active with the Philoptochof Ladies Organization.

In her free time Eleni enjoyed knitting as well as flower & vegetable gardening.

Survivors include her son Peter Asimou of Lorain, sister Yarepho Bardosas residing in Athens, Greece, and a host of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband James A. Asimou in 2013, parents Theodore and Panaywota Kollias, and brothers Harry and Nick Kollias.

Visitation will be Monday December 11th from 10:00 a.m. until the time of funeral services at 11:00 a.m. in St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church – 2000 Tower Boulevard, Lorain. Reverend Father Christopher Zaferes will officiate. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery, Lorain.

In lieu of flowers, the family encourages contributions to St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church – 2000 Tower Boulevard, Lorain, OH 44053.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel.
