Chad M. Settie, 41

Photo of Chad M. Settie Chad M. Settie, age 41, of Lorain, passed away peacefully at Mercy New Life Hospice on the morning of Sunday December 3, 2023 following an extended battle with MELAS Disease.

He was born in Lorain on September 4, 1982 and remained a life-long resident of the city.

A 2000 Lorain Catholic High School graduate, he was a drummer in the Spartan Marching Band as well as a member of the tech crew during drama club productions.

Chad was active with the Firelands Council of the Boy Scouts of America for many years beginning as a Tiger Cub and progressing through the ranks as he worked towards the goal of becoming an Eagle Scout.

An avid fan of all Ohio sports teams and devotee of Marilyn Monroe, Chad enjoyed dogs and liked cars, playing video games, and drawing

Survivors include his parents Todd M. and Hope M. “Cooki” (nee Bennington) Settie of Lorain, sister Amber Settie (Jerrod) also of Lorain, uncles Scott Bennington (Claire) of Cincinnati, Keith Staller (Debbie) of Sheffield Township, and Bill Glover (Jessica) of Olmsted Falls, along with aunts Amanda Berry of Lorain, Lisa Settie of Ravenna, and a host of cousins.

Chad was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Joseph and Nancy (nee Mitchell) Settie, maternal grandfather Charles Bennington (Rose “Satch”), maternal grandmother Ilene Berry (Nelson), and uncles Jeffrey and Adam Bennington.

Chad’s family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Laura Konczal and all the doctors, caregivers, and staff at the UH Genetics Department as well as EJQ Home Health Service and aide Dawn Holland and Mercy New Life Hospice for the excellent and loving care they provided throughout Chad’s declining health.

A visitation celebrating Chad’s life will be observed from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel – 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain on Friday December 15th. (www.gluvnashimohromada.com.)
