Stella Bereznicka Biber, 82, Expert Seamstress

Photo of Stella Bereznicka  Biber Stella Bereznicka Biber died peacefully on August 18, 2008 at home with her family. Stella had been ill for several years before passing away on Monday.

She was born July 20, 1926 and lived in South Lorain before moving to Sheffield Village in 1981.

Stella was a graduate of Lorain High School, class of 1944B. During World War II she worked in the garment industry, becoming an expert seamstress. After her marriage in 1947, she left the garment industry but continued to sew, and crochet for the rest of her life. Her quilts, blankets, and clothing were much appreciated gifts for friends and family on every special occasion.

Stella was active in school affairs for each of her four children. She worked fundraising events for PTA’s, Booster Clubs, and school groups. In recent years she enjoyed attending her grandson’s athletic events and school functions. She was a life member of the Stephan Czarnecki Lodge and a member of the Polish National Alliance. Following a serious accident to her second son Patrick, in 1971, she became his primary caregiver for 30 years seeing him through his Masters Degree and providing his work transportation.

Stella was preceded in death by her parents Jan Breznicki in 1953 and Agnes Bereznicka in 1954, husband of 58 years, Paul Biber in 2005, and her son Patrick Biber in 2000.

She is survived by her son Paul Biber of Lorain, daughters Karen Biber Holdford (Thomas) of Martinez, California, Diana Biber of Sheffield Village, grandsons Daniel and Joshua of Sheffield Lake, as well as her daughter-in-law Joan Perch Biber of Sheffield Lake.

A Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, August 30, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, 2702 Elyria Ave., Lorain. The Rev. David A. Novak, parish administrator, will officiate. Family and friends will gather at the church hall immediately following the mass.
