Joan T. Johnson , 73, Active in Youth and Women's Bowling

Joan T. Johnson (nee Dimacchia), 73, of Lorain, died Sunday January 7, 2007 at New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph in Lorain after a lengthy battle with cancer.

She was born August 12, 1933 in Lorain and had been a lifelong Lorain area resident.

Joan worked at the Nordson Corporation in Amherst as an accounting clerk for 18 � years retiring in 1998. She also worked as a clerk at Rebman Recreation in Lorain.

Joan was a life member of the Lorain Women’s Bowling Association and served on the board of directors for many years. She became a certified youth bowling coach and served on the board of directors as a member of the Greater Lorain Junior Bowling Association. Joan was a secretary and tournament director for the North Shore Ohio BPA and was a member and board director of the Lorain Sports Hall of Fame. In 1991 she was inducted into the Lorain Women’s Bowling Association Hall of Fame for Meritorious Service.

She was a member of the Catholic Church of St. Peter in Lorain and enjoyed bowling, golfing and escorting buses on casino trips.

She is survived by her daughter Jennifer Randall and her husband Pat of Amherst, son Shawn Johnson of Toledo, granddaughter Kristina Randall of Amherst, sisters Carmelene Januzzi of Lorain, Carol Courtney of Fremont, Anita Helbig of Avon Park, Florida and Peggy Rutkowski of Amherst and brothers Marshall Dimacchia of Lorain and John Dimacchia of Sheffield Lake. She was preceded in death by her parents Cal & Josephine Dimacchia (nee Rosso) and brother Joseph Dimacchia in 1974.

The family will receive friends Tuesday 4-8 PM at the Gluvna Shimo Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave. Lorain where members of the Lorain Sports Hall of Fame will conduct a memorial service Tuesday at 7:00 PM. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 9:30 AM in the funeral chapel followed by the mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM at the Catholic Church of St. Peter, 3601 Oberlin Ave., Lorain. The Rev. Charles Henkle, associate pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain.
