Loretta M. Sandrew , 80, Department of Navy Veteran

Loretta M. Sandrew (nee Ganobsik), age 80, of Westlake, and formerly of Lorain, died Thursday December 14, 2006 at the Rae-Ann Nursing Center in Westlake following an extended illness.

Mrs. Sandrew was born in Lorain on October 15, 1926 and was a graduate of Lorain High School.

Following her graduation from high school she worked as an administrative assistant for the Department of the Navy during World War II.

Loretta was an active parishioner of the Catholic Church of Saint Peter in Lorain as well as Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Avon Lake. She was a member of the Saint Francis of Assisi Mission Group at Saint Peter as well as the Alter and Rosary Society there. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the American Slovak Club as well as a member of the Dreamer's Club. In her free time she enjoyed serving as a volunteer at the Anchor Lodge Nursing Home in Lorain as well as volunteering at her churches.

Survivors include sons Greg of Avon Lake and Grant of Vermilion, daughters, Leslie Telloni and Lynette Gray both of Avon Lake, and Laura Treichel of Peoria, Illinois, eight grandchildren, and brothers Norbert Ganobsik of Avon Lake and Kenneth Ganobsik of Elyria.

She was preceded in death by her husband George in 1994 and by her parents Joseph "Skip" and Margaret (nee Stolarik) Ganobsik both in 1990.

Visitation will be Thursday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel - 3224 Broadway Ave. Lorain. Funeral services will be Friday beginning with closing prayers offered at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral chapel and will be followed by the celebration of her funeral mass at 10:00 a.m. in the Catholic Church of Saint Peter - 3501 Oberlin Ave. Lorain. The Reverend Kenneth Wolnowski, pastor of Saint Peter Parish will officiate. Burial will following in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.

The family encourages memorial contributions in her name to either the Catholic Charities of Cleveland -27911 Detroit Ave., Cleveland, OH 44102 or to the national Osteoporosis Foundation - 12322 22nd Street, N.W. Washington D.C. 20037-1292.
