Stanley H. ''Hank'' Grycz, 81, 101st Airborne Purple Heart Recipient

Mr. Grycz was born on October 16, 1924 in Lorain and had been a life-long resident of the city. He was a 1942 graduate of Lorain High School.

Hank was inducted into the United States Army on December 11, 1942 and served as a paratrooper and a mortar gun crewman attached to the 101st Airborne Division. He completed duty assignments in Normandy, the Rhineland, the Ardennes, and throughout Central Europe. He was the recipient of the Purple Heart, the Distinguised Unit Badge with one Oak Leaf Cluster, Four Bronze Stars, the Bronze Arrowhead, the American Campaign Medal, the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, the World War II Victory Medal, as well as the Good Conduct Medal.

In 1960 he joined the Penton Publishing Company where he was employed for thirty years as a lithographer at Penton's Berea, Ohio complex. He retired in 1990.

Mr. Grycz was a member of the Polish American Citizens Club of Lorain as well as a social member of the American Slovak Club. His hobbies included reading and solving crossword puzzles. Additional interests included amateur radio and attending ham fests throughout northern Ohio.

He is survived by his wife of fifty-six years Virginia (nee Orseno), son Jeffrey A. Grycz residing in Seattle, Washington, daughter Linda Marie Duelly of Lorain, sister Sophia Csubak also of Lorain, along with nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father Walter Grycz in 1958 and by his mother Josephine (nee Gembiec) Grycz in 1978.

Visitation will be Saturday, October 22, 2005, from 2:00 p.m until 4:00 in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel - 3224 Broadway Avenue - Lorain. At the conclusion of visitation military honors will be conducted by officers and members of Louis Paul Proy Chapter # 20 of the Disabled American Veterans of Lorain.
