Robert W. Schwaegerl, 86, WWII Veteran
Robert W. Schwaegerl, 86 of Avon Lake, formerly of Lakewood and East Cleveland, passed away, Friday, September 10 at Lakewood Hospital, following complications of a heart ailment.Mr. Schwaegerl was born, July 28, 1918 in Cleveland and has lived in Avon Lake the past 51 years.
Mr. Schwaegerl attended Finn College and was a graduate of Case Western Reserve University with a business degree. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corp, as a Captain, flying B-26 Bombers during WWII. Mr. Schwaegerl was award the Distinguished Flying Cross for retuning his group to safety after sustaining much damage during their D-Day mission. Mr. Schwaegerl worked for Ohio Bell as a Depreciation Manager for many years.
Mr. Schwaegerl was a member of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, a member of Spring Valley Country Club and a member of the Cleveland Yachting Club. He enjoyed golf and sailing and owned 4 different sailboats over the years.
Mr. Schwaegerl is survived by his wife of 57 years: Wilma A. (nee Appunn). Other survivors include two sisters: Lois Suthanri and Gloria Nelson, both of N. Hollywood, CA.
