Robert S. "Bob" Berstling, 68, Marconi Communications Tester

Robert S. "Bob" Berstling, 68, of Lorain died Sunday, April 7, 2002 at Lutheran Hospital in Cleveland, following a short illness.

Born May 30, 1933 in Lorain, he has lived here his entire life, and graduated from Lorain High School in 1951.

He served as corporal in the US Army in Korea during the mid 1950's. He received the Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, national Defense Service Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal.

He worked for 47 years at Marconi Communications (the former Lorain Products Corp.) in the Central Testing Dept. as a Test, retiring in 1998. He was also a musician, playing the drums in many local bands for many years.

He was a member of the Church of St. Peter, Lorain, the American Federation of Musicians Union Local 146, and was a former councilman at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Lorain.

He enjoyed polkas and attending polka festivals, watching and attending Cleveland Indians baseball games, gardening, and watching stock car racing and World of Outlaw Racing.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Alice M. (nee Horak), 2 sons, Robert M. of Lorain, and Andy of Grafton, daughters, Marie Kruger, of Amherst and Marjorie A. Berstling, of Toledo, 2 granddaughters, a brother, Thomas S. Berstling, of Lorain and a sister, Betty Ann Savinsky of Lorain.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Stephan Berstling, and Elizabeth (nee Martonchik) Berstling, a brother, Joseph Berstling, and 2 grandchildren.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 10, 2002 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the Dovin funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Ave., Lorain where funeral services will be Thursday, April 11th at 9:30 a.m. followed by mass at 10:00 a.m. at the Church of St. Peter, Lorain. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain. The Disabled American Veterans, Louis Paul Proy Chapter 20, will conduct full military honors.
