Cathrine D. Holbrook, 75, Teacher

Catherine D. (nee Marshall) Holbrook, age 75, of Vermilion, died Thursday, March 22, 2001, at Oak Hills Nursing Center, following a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's Disease.
Catherine was born, Dec. 5, 1925, in Scotland, and moved to Lorain area as a child. She graduated from Lorain High School. She continued onto college, and graduated from Bryant College, Tennessee, with a B.A. in English and then to Kent State University, obtaining a teaching degree, with a B.S. in Education.
She was a teacher of the 3rd and 4th Grade at Valley View Elementary School, Vermilion, retiring in 1985. Prior to her teaching in Vermilion, she was a Child Evangelism Director, in Akron. She was a member of the Church of the Open Door, Elyria, Ohio Education Association, National Education Association, and Vermilion Teachers Association.
Catherine enjoyed listening to sacred and classical music, traveling, and was a volunteer for Project Light (an adult literacy program).
She is survived by her loving husband of 44 years, Emmit; 2 daughters: Patricia Heiland, of Lorain, and Fay Happel, of Vermillion; 3 grandchildren; and a brother Robert Marshall, of Hudson. She is preceded in death by her parents, Andrew and Margaret (nee Hines) Marshall.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 24, 2001, at 11:00 a.m., in the Grace United Methodist Church, at Coen and W. Lake Rds. Vermilion.
The Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Ave., Lorain, is handling arrangements.
