A musician of magisterial interpretive and technical prowess, pianist Garrick Ohlsson opens the season on Thursday, November 1, at 8 p.m. The Grammy Award-winning artist is praised for his "unfailingly beautiful tonal variety" (Washington Post). Ohlsson has appeared in the world's top venues. His Oberlin performance will feature works by Brahms, Liszt, and Granados.
Cellist Steven Isserlis and pianist Jeremy Denk, both Oberlin graduates, return to their old stomping grounds to present an unforgettable evening of masterful musicianship on Tuesday, February 5, 2013, at 8 p.m. Called "kindred spirits" by the New York Times, the duo is lauded by critics for their incredible energy and innovation in classical music.
The Cleveland Orchestra and Oberlin College continue to build upon their historic relationship with this season's performance on Friday, February 8, 2013. The concert marks the Orchestra's 212th appearance at Oberlin, and will be led by guest conductor Gianandrea Noseda, praised by the Times (London) for his "crackling energy ... and a true Italian relish of drama and contrast."
One of the greatest operatic mezzo-sopranos in history, Marilyn Horne returns to the Oberlin Conservatory of Music to present master classes on February 22 and 24, 2013. Made possible by the Danenberg Residency Fund, Horne's classes are a unique opportunity for all to listen and learn as the musical legend works with Oberlin voice majors. A special ARS Bonus Event, the events are FREE to subscribers and Oberlin staff, faculty, students, alumni, and area educators; and only $5 for the general public.
Since its founding two decades ago, the Leipzig String Quartet has garnered the attention of international critics and audiences with its distinctive dark timbre and meticulously sculpted interpretations of a widely varied repertoire. Dubbed "master chamber musicians who have skyrocketed to fame" by Gramophone, the quartet will perform in Finney Chapel on Sunday, March 3, 2013, at 4 p.m.
Known for the singular power and beauty of her voice, Deborah Voigt is widely acknowledged as today's preeminent dramatic soprano. Lauded for possessing "lyricism, beauty of tone and dramatic acuity," as well as for her "impressive aura and voice," Voigt has garnered enthusiastic acclaim from critics and the world's opera audiences as a leading exponent of operas by Wagner, Strauss, and Verdi. Her performance on Sunday, March 10, 2013 at 8 p.m. is not to be missed.
Apollo's Fire, Cleveland's acclaimed baroque orchestra founded by conductor Jeannette Sorrell (OC '90), returns to Oberlin College on Sunday, April 28, 2013 at 4 p.m. This concert of sparkling arias and orchestral brilliance is inspired by the famous friendship between "Papa Haydn" and his young protege Mozart. Haydn's stormy "Trauer" Symphony, No. 44, gives way to the laughter of young Mozart's early operas. The concert features soprano Amanda Forsythe, fresh from triumphs at Covent Garden, as well as students from Oberlin's celebrated historical performance program.
All concerts take place in historic Finney Chapel, called "acoustically wonderful" by New York Observer's Charles Michener. All programs and artists are subject to change. Information is also available online.
Subscriptions and Single Ticket Sales
Oberlin College is offering a buy-one-get-one-FREE package for new subscribers that translates into a savings of up to $185 (offer ends Friday, September 14). This offer extends to past subscribers who have allowed their subscriptions to lapse at least five years. It is unavailable to students and current subscribers. The benefits of subscribing to the Artist Recital Series include savings of about 33 percent off single ticket prices, free admission to bonus events, priority seating, and advance notice of upcoming events. Season subscriptions, which include all seven Artist Recital Series concerts and admission to two bonus events-master classes with Marilyn Horne-cost $185 (a $265 value). Prices are discounted for seniors 55 years of age and older and for those with an Oberlin College ID and cost $160 (a $235 value). Student subscriptions cost $60 (a $95 value). The renewal deadline for returning subscribers who wish to keep their seats is Monday, September 10.
Subscriptions to the 134th season of Oberlin's Artist Recital Series are on sale now, and are available through Oberlin College's Central Ticket Service (CTS). Single tickets go on sale September 17, 2012. Prices vary and are listed below. Tickets are available at the door, starting one hour before the performance; however, tickets purchased at the door cost $3 more (with the exception of the Marilyn Horne master classes).

About the Artist Recital Series
Since the inception of the Artist Recital Series in 1878, more than 1,000 of the most acclaimed and accomplished musicians, conductors, orchestras, chamber ensembles, and composers have graced the stage of Finney Chapel at Oberlin College. Stars of such international stature as Dave Brubeck, Alicia de Larrocha, Juan Diego Florez, Glenn Gould, Denyce Graves, Jascha Heifetz, Vladimir Horowitz, Yo-Yo Ma, Sergei Rachmaninoff, Isaac Stern, George Szell, and Eugene Ysaye have performed under the auspices of the series. Since 1919, the Cleveland Orchestra has appeared on the series every season for a total of 211 performances under the baton of such illustrious and varied conductors as Nikolai Sokoloff, Artur Rodzinski, George Szell, Robert Shaw, Pierre Boulez, Lorin Maazel, Simon Rattle, Yoel Levi, Christoph von Dohnanyi, Vladimir Ashkenazy, Jahja Ling, Robert Spano, Franz Welser-Most, and Mitskuko Uchida. This growing roster is more than an impressive "Who's Who." It is an illumination of the finest of serious music, spanning from the late 19th century to the present.
