Final Stage of the Ohio Underground Railroad Project

December 15, 2006 — The African Heritage Walkway Committee, sponsors of the Lorain, Ohio Underground Railway Project, invites all elected officials and other interested persons to be part of history by having their names placed on a paver in the Reflective Garden at the Black River Landings in a special area designated as "Voices of Democracy".

These pavers are part of a garden path which will surround a 4' x 6' low relief bronze sculpture designed by nationally known artist, George Danhires. The sculpture depicts a runaway slave family fleeing to freedom through Station 100 (Lorain, OH) on the Ohio Underground Railroad.

Station 100 was recognized by the Ohio Historical Society with a marker on September 9, 2006. The installation of the Danhires' sculpture in the Reflective Garden to be dedicated June 16, 2007, (save the date) completes the final phase of a project which will document Lorain's historical participation in the Civil War era.

Small engraved pavers are $50.00. This entitles the purchaser to one 14 character engraved line. Large pavers are $100.00 and entitle the purchaser to two 14 character lines. Send payments c/o Underground Railroad Committee, PO Box 98, Lorain, OH 44052. For further information, call (440)670-6027.
