April 16, 2018 — The most recent financial audit of has returned a clean audit report. Outstanding record keeping has earned Firelands the Auditor of State Award.

Keri Angney, Treasurer of The Firelands Local Schools stated, "We are very proud to have once again received this award from the Auditor of State. It is not only indicative of the hard work and dedication from the staff in the Treasurer's office, but it is the result of a collaborative effort among the administration and the entire district. This award and clean audit is evidence to the community that their tax dollars are in the hands of fiscally responsible and competent individuals who are committed to being good stewards of those dollars."

The Auditor of State Award is presented to local school districts upon the completion of a financial audit. Entities that receive the award meet following criteria of a 'clean' audit report:
- The school must file timely financial reports with the Auditor of State's office in
according with the GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles)
- The audit report does not contain any findings for recovery, material citations,
material weaknesses, significant deficiencies, Single Audit findings or questioned
costs
- The entity's management letter contains no comments related to:
Ethics referrals
Reconciliation
Questioned costs less than $10,000
Lack of timely report submission
Public meetings or public records
