Marlene M. Holko, 89, Devoted Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Sister, Daughter, Aunt, and Friend

Photo of Marlene M. Holko Marlene M. Holko (nee Beiswenger), age 89 of Lorain, passed away peacefully at O'Neill Healthcare of Bay Village on the evening of Saturday March 9, 2024 following a period of declining health.

Marlene was born in Lorain on September 24, 1934 and was a graduate of Lorain High School.

In her early years she held various jobs, such as cashier at a local grocery store and office secretary for the Lorain House Lumber Company. Later in life she was employed by the Lorain City School System where she worked in cafeteria services later transitioning to the cleaning and housekeeping department.

Above all else, the role which she was most devoted to was caregiver. As a wife, mother, grandmother, sister, daughter, aunt and friend, Marlene always prioritized the needs of others ahead of her own.

Marlene was a long-time member and volunteer of St. John United Church of Christ in Lorain; in her free-time she enjoyed maintaining her yard, vegetable gardening, and baking. She also enjoyed collecting anything related to angels and owls.

She is survived by sons Kevin Welch of Lorain, Andrew Holko, Jr. (Tami) of O'Fallon, Illinois, and Christopher Holko (April Current) of Cleveland. She also leaves grandchildren Greta Holko, Brianna Holko, and Amber Holko.

Marlene was preceded in death by her first husband Kenneth Welch, Sr., second husband Andrew "Skip" Holko, son Kenneth Welch, Jr., parents Frederick "Fritz" Beiswenger and Victoria (nee Drexler) Beiswenger, sister Lois Nickoloff, and brother Fred Beiswenger.

Friends may call Friday March 15th from 10:00 a.m. until the time of funeral services at 12:00 noon in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel 3224 Broadway, Lorain. Reverend David Rogers, Pastor of St. John United Church of Christ will officiate. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park.
