Photo of Anna Mae Proy Anna Mae Proy (nee Siegfried), age 98, of Twinsburg, and formerly of Lorain, passed away peacefully at the Main Street Care Center in Avon Lake on the afternoon of Friday March 8, 2024.

Born in Kenton, Ohio on October 3, 1925, Anna was a graduate of Lorain High School as a member of the Class of 1943-B.

She began her working career in the clerical department of Thew Shovel Company and later transitioned to a production assistant role at Bonne Belle. Most recently, she had worked as an assembler for Western Enterprises.

Anna was a long-time member of the former Delaware Avenue United Methodist Church and had been worshiping at Lighthouse United Methodist Church prior to relocating to Twinsburg.

Throughout her life she was extremely active with the Disabled American Veterans organization on the state and local levels serving as State DAV Auxiliary Chaplain as well as 5th District Commander of the DAV Auxiliary; she was also a proud member and former Treasurer of the Louis Paul Proy Chapter 20 Ladies Auxiliary. In addition, she volunteered countless hours representing the DAV at veteran’s hospitals in Cleveland and Brecksville as well as the Ohio Veterans Home in Sandusky. Anna also formerly served as Secretary of the Lorain Memorial Association.

A member of the Queen City Chapter # 66 - Order of the Eastern Star, Anna enjoyed a variety of recreational and leisurely pursuits including league bowling, lake fishing with her late husband, knitting, and crocheting. She was also an avid reader with a special fondness for Amish romance novels. In addition, she liked sports and was a frequent spectator at the athletic events of her children and grandchildren as well as their marching band trips.

An ardent fan of vocalist Englebert Humperdinck, Anna loved to travel and considered her trips to Las Vegas, Tijuana, Mexico, Branson, Missouri, and coastal California amongst her favorites.

Possessing an interest in all types of wine, she also enjoyed testing the fates with scratch-off lotto tickets and casino junkets.

At one time, Anna’s daughter, Denice resided out of state. This necessitated roads trips for holiday and summer visits which frequently found Anna travelling with only her other daughter, Dee Anna, and no male. For safety, she purchased a CB radio to monitor road conditions and to communicate with truckers and other vehicular traffic. Anna drove a red car and possessed a propensity for speed. Somewhere along the line, she acquired the CB handle Red Flash. She became well known by the truckers who frequented her routes of travel and they would always be vigilant for she and her daughter’s well-being, especially as it related to speed enforcement. Commonly echoed on channel nineteen were the words “Here comes the Red Flash, better get out of her way.”

Anna is survived by daughters Denice Hillin of Avon Lake, and Dee Anna DiMuzio (William) of Twinsburg, along with son Dennis P. Proy (Vera) of Lorain. She also leaves eleven grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, six great great grandchildren, brother Harry Siegfried of Lorain and several nieces and nephews.
