Virgil Edison Carver, 70, U.S. Navy Veteran

Photo of Virgil Edison Carver Virgil Edison “Eddie” Carver, age 70, of Lorain, went home to be with the Lord during the early morning hours of Monday February 26, 2024.

He was born in Lorain on April 4, 1953 and remained a life-long resident of the city.

A veteran of the United States Navy, he fulfilled duty assignments aboard the USS Independence (CV-62) and was the recipient of the National Defense Service Medal. In addition, he was a member of American Legion Post # 211 in Avon Lake where he served as a member of the Flag Line.

He had been employed by the Ford Motor Company for more than four decades beginning as a production assistant and vehicle porter at the Lorain Assembly Plant. He later transitioned to the role of Quality Control Inspector at the company’s Avon Lake Facility. Virgil was a member of both U.A.W. Local 425 and 2000 and formerly served the organizations as a Health and Safety Delegate. He officially retired from the automaker in 2016.

Virgil was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church where he served as President of the church’s Board of Directors. In addition, he served as a Scoutmaster for the Boy Scouts, videographer for the Lorain High School football team, and as a volunteer with the Palace Youth Theater program.

During his free time he enjoyed hunting, bicycling, motorcycles and, most importantly, spending time with his grandsons.

Eddie will always be remembered for his humor, his willingness to help others, and the extraordinary way that he took care of his family.

He is survived by his wife of forty-nine years Lorene (nee Quigley), son Joseph Edison (Meredith), and daughters Katie Lynn Reynolds (A.J.) and Mallery Lorene Carver (Gabe). Additional survivors included grandsons Andrew Edison Carver and Benjamin Ross Carver, beloved sister-in-law Sheri Short (former husband Dan), sister-in-law Beverly Davis (Ron), sister-in-law Veronica Toth, brother-in-law John Quigley, sister-in-law Beverly Davis (Tim Quigley, deceased) several nephews, and one niece..

He was preceded in death by his father Fred Edison Carver, mother Mary L. Carver (nee Bensley), and brother Fred “Denny” Carver.

Visitation will be Wednesday from 3:00 until 6:00 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel – 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain. A Service of Resurrection will be conducted at 12:00 noon on Saturday March 30th in Zion Lutheran Church – 5100 Ashland Avenue with Reverend William Mugnolo, Pastor of the church presiding. A Celebration of Life Luncheon and extended fellowship will take place in the church social hall immediately following the services.
