Anna M. Kish, 87, Proud of Her Hungarian Heritage

Photo of Anna M. Kish Anna M. Kish (nee Palagyi), age 87, of Sheffield Township, passed away at her residence during the early morning hours of Friday February 23, 2024.

Born in Lorain on March 21, 1936, she was a graduate of Clearview High School, and a life-long resident of the city.

Anna began her working career as a cashier for the Fisher-Fazio Grocery Stores in greater Lorain. In 1964, she founded Anna Dorsz Electrolysis and continued to operate the business as a Doctor of Cosmetic Therapy from her home office until her retirement 2001.

She was a long-time active parishioner of the former St. Ladislaus Hungarian Catholic Church in Lorain where she was involved in the Legion of Mary, St. Ann’s Auxiliary, and the Virgin Mary Society.

Anna was extremely proud of her Hungarian heritage; she was an active performer in the St. Ladislaus Kalocsa Folk Dance Group until its disassembly. She enjoyed watching her family continue this tradition of Hungarian dancing. Even though she was highly skilled in cooking and baking traditional Hungarian cuisine, she was famously known for her nut and poppy seed rolls.

She is survived by her daughters Clarice Demetzky (Daniel) of North Ridgeville, and Theresa Kish-Gibbons (Stephen) of Elyria and son Michael Kish (Denise) also of Elyria. Additional survivors included ten grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and brother Joseph Palagyi of Lorain.

Anna was preceded in death by her parents Stephen and Rose(nee Toth) Palagyi, first husband Clarence W. Dorsz in 1963, second husband Robert Kish in 2000, son Clarence W. “Chugger” Dorsz in 2021, daughters Monica and Barbara Kish, granddaughter Yvonne Kish, brothers Steve Vitai, George and John Palagyi, and sister Rose Rigo.

Visitation will be Friday from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of funeral services at 10:30 a.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel – 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain. Reverend Richard Bona, Administrator of St. Emeric Catholic Church in Cleveland will preside. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
