James Alan Baker, 55, U.S. Navy Veteran

Photo of James Alan Baker James Alan Baker, 55, formerly of Lorain, passed from this world on Sunday, January 21st, 2024, in Northern California.

He was much loved by his friends and family. We will never forget his sense of humor, his thoughtfulness, or his dedication to his loved ones. His visits to Ohio were very anticipated and enjoyed.

Jim was born in Lorain in 1968. He was a member of Cub Scout Pack 350 for several years. He graduated with the Southview High School class of 1986. He was proud of his service in the Navy, from 1986 to 1992, on the supply ship USS White Plains. Later, Jim did volunteer work assisting other veterans at the VA hospital in San Francisco. His last job was at UCSF Medical Center, where he met several good friends. Tip o’ the hat to Jim’s Irish friends from Martin Mack’s, and his friends in Arcata, his home since 2012, who were very helpful to us in settling his affairs.

Jim enjoyed genealogy, and spent many hours researching our ancestry. He connected with several new relatives through his efforts, going all the way back to Ukraine, which he held close to his heart.

Jim is survived by his parents, Don and Linda Arty; brothers Scott (Erica) Arty, Keith Baker, and Robert Baker; niece Arianna; Uncle Charles Greulich, Uncle Ron and Aunt Val Taliano, and Aunt Mary Ann Barnes; many cousins; and daughter Hannah. He was predeceased by his father James J. Baker (Jean), and his aunt Mary Jane Greulich.

We would like to express our deepest sympathies to the families of the others who lost their lives in the accident on January 21st.

His family will receive friends at St. Francis Cabrini Parish, 2143 Homewood Drive (Grove Avenue and Homewood Drive) Lorain, Ohio 44055 on Saturday, April 13, 2024, from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial.
