Jack P. Yaneris, 94, Former Teacher at Lorain City Schools

Photo of Jack P. Yaneris Jack P. Yaneris, 94, of Lorain, passed away peacefully at his home while in his companion Marlene’s arms on Tuesday November 8, 2022.

He was born November 27, 1927 in Webster Springs, West Virginia and had resided in Lorain most of his life.

Jack graduated from Webster Springs High School and then served with the US Navy as a medic from 1945-1947. He attended Fairmont State College in West Virginia where he received his Bachelor of Education. Later, he attended Kent State University and received his Masters.

Jack taught History and English for Lorain City Schools for 30 years retiring from Longfellow Elementary School. He then worked as a substitute teacher at Lorain County Joint Vocational School for another 30 years before fully retiring.

He was a member of the Lorain Teachers Association where he served as president for many years, a member and past president of the Ohio State Teachers Association and a member of the Northeast Ohio Education Association.

A Civil War buff, he enjoyed visiting battle sites and cemeteries in Gettysburg and Williamsburg. He was an avid fan of Cleveland sports teams, Ohio State and West Virginia.

He is survived by his companion of 34 years Marlene Humphries and her children Elizabeth Inman (Marty), Aliceson Humphries (Susan) and Natalie Humphries; their grandchildren: Benjamin Inman (Samantha), Alexander Inman (Andy), Marlee Mitchell (Terance) and Ridge Mitchell; great granddaughter Raegan Miller (who was the light of his life); sisters Jeanette Pacheco and Linda Cutlip (Jim) and granddaughter Melanie. He was preceded in death by his daughter Susan, parents Tony & Bertie Yaneris (nee Kelley) and brothers Joe Andy Yaneris and James Yaneris.

The family will receive friends Monday November 14, 2022 from 4:00-8:00 pm at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway, Lorain. Additional visiting will be held Tuesday November 15, 2022 from 10:00 am until the time of the mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am at St Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 41295 N Ridge Rd, Elyria. The Rev Neil Walters, pastor, will preside. Immediately following mass, military honors will be conducted outside the church by AMVETS Post #32 of Elyria. Cremation will follow.

Memorial contributions can be made to St Jude Children’s Hospital or the Shriner’s Children’s Burn Institute.
