Donna A. Sherry, 66, Southview High School's First Majorette

Photo of Donna A. Sherry Donna A. Sherry (nee Markley), age 66, of Vermilion, and formerly of Lorain, passed away at her residence on the afternoon of Thursday December 16, 2021 following an extended illness.

Born in Flint, Michigan on June 1, 1955, Donna grew up in Lorain and was a graduate of Southview High School where she will forever be remembered as the school’s first majorette.

She was most recently employed at the Vermilion Y.M.C.A. Previously, she had worked as the manager of a fabric store while residing in Kentucky, and also as a cafeteria monitor for the Lorain Public School System.

A former parishioner of St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Parish in Lorain, Donna enjoyed sewing and flower gardening in her free time. She was also an avid auto racing enthusiast and an ardent follower of Hendrick Motor Sports driver Jeff Gordon. Locally, she liked watching super-modified racing at the Lorain County and Sandusky Speedways and had served as the trophy girl at the Sandusky track in 1981.

She is survived by daughter Erika Springs (Shawn) of Little Rock, Arkansas, and son Jeff Sherry (Kim Wolford) of Vermilion. Additional survivors include granddaughters Gabrielle and Samantha Cantu, step-grandson Caleb Cain, great granddaughter Adison, mother Betty L. Markley (nee Simpson) of Lorain, and sister Vickie L Cuevas (George) also of Lorain.

Donna was preceded in death by her husband David Sherry in 2012 and father Donald Markely in 2009.

Visitation will be Tuesday from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel – 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain. Funeral services will be Wednesday in the funeral chapel at a time to be announced. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township.
