Elizabeth Mehok, 60, Lover of Music and Learning

Photo of Elizabeth  Mehok Elizabeth Mehok (née McElroy), 60, of Oberlin, passed away on January 27, 2019, after a sustained and valiant battle with breast cancer.

A New Jersey native, Liz was a lover of music and learning. She earned an undergraduate degree in music from Elizabeth College and a graduate degree in library science from Rutgers University. She sang in several choirs, including the National Philharmonic Chorale in Bethesda, Maryland. She cherished memories of a choral performance in Carnegie Hall. Liz most recently sang with Musical Union, one of the nation's oldest continuing chorale traditions, based in Oberlin, Ohio.

Liz worked for Recordings for the Blind in Princeton, New Jersey and for Intelsat in Washington, D.C. She had great concern for the elderly and wanted them to receive the highest quality of care. After being diagnosed with cancer more than a dozen years ago, Liz undertook serious study of the disease and became an ardent advocate for alternative, non-toxic treatments. Until recent months, she lived the fullest of lives, enjoying horseback riding, singing, knitting, reading, and exercise.

Liz is survived by her loving husband of 23 years Timothy Mehok of Oberlin, her mother, Margaret McElroy, her sister, Mary Catherine Mc Elroy, her brothers, Richard (Maureen) McElroy and Edward (Ana) McElroy , and several loving nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father Richard T. McElroy.

Visitation will be held on Friday, February 1, at Ss. Cyril and Methodius Orthodox Church, 3056 Reeves Avenue, Lorain, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. Parastas will be at the church Friday at 6:30 PM. Her funeral service will be held on Saturday, at Ss. Cyril and Methodius Orthodox Church at 10:00 AM. Rev. Father Paul G. Monkowski, Pastor will officiate. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst.
