Irene Farkas, 91, Loved to Cook

Photo of Irene Farkas Irene Farkas (nee Hoczko) joined the Lord at the age of 91 on Wednesday, September 5, 2018 at Kemper House in Highland Heights.

She was born May 7, 1927 in Duquense, Pa. and was raised in Yatesboro, Pa. before making her home in Lorain in 1942. Irene was a long-time employee in the meat department at Pick-n-Pay in Lorain until she retired. She had a deep love of God and her faith and was a faithful member of St. Ladislaus Catholic Church in Lorain. She moved to Amherst and became a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.

Irene loved to cook, sing Hungarian songs and dance to polka music.

Survivors include her son Steven Farkas and his wife Claudia of Willoughby Hills; 5 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Julianne Ott in 2014; her longtime companion of 30 years, Charles Kerecz in 2014; her sisters Margaret Hoczko, Anne Burns and Louise Schafer; and her parents, Joseph and Julia Hoczko (nee Turowski).

The family will receive friends Tuesday September 11, 2018 from 9 to 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church; 200 St. Joseph Drive, Amherst. A Mass of Christian burial will take place immediately following. The Rev. Timothy O'Connor, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Ridge Hill Memorial Park in Amherst Township.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Hospice of the Western Reserve, 17876 St. Clair Ave, Cleveland, Ohio 44110.
