Christopher M. Newman, 27, Plumbers & Steamfitters Local 42 Apprentice
Christopher M. Newman, age 27, of Lorain, passed away on the morning of Monday June 6, 2016 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
Born in Amherst on November 30, 1988, he was a graduate of Clearview High School where he was a standout athlete on the Clipper football and basketball teams. A multiple varsity letter recipient, Chris also received All-Ohio recognition in football during his senior year.
Following graduation, he attended Ohio Wesleyan University where he earned a position on the varsity football team as a freshman. He subsequently received a degree in automotive technology from Wyotech Institute in Blairsville, Pennsylvania.
Chris was born with a passion for automobiles and began his racing career driving alcohol go-carts for Chase Racing; he later moved into racing’s sportsman division. In 2008 he left the driver’s seat to become crew chief for Shaffer Racing which participated in the modified division throughout Ohio, Indiana, and Florida.
Chris was currently employed as a fourth year apprentice with Plumbers and Steamfitters Local 42 based in Norwalk.
He attended St. Angela Merici Catholic Church in Fairview Park.
Survivors include his parents Jeff and Brenda (nee Knick) Newman of Lorain, his brother Jordan (Elizabeth) Newman of Little Rock, Arkansas, soon-to-be fiancée Nicole Craft of North Olmsted, maternal grandmother Dolores Stauder of Lorain, and paternal grandparents John and Dottie (nee Spears) Newman also of Lorain. In addition, Chris leaves a host of uncles, aunts, and cousins, along with countless members of his racing family.
Visitation will be today (Wednesday) from 2-4 & 6-9 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain. Funeral services will be Thursday at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral chapel with Reverend Timothy Roth, Associate Pastor of St. Angela Merici Parish officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
