Harold R. Burgy, 61

Photo of Harold R. Burgy Harold R. “Randy” Burgy, age 61, of Amherst, passed away at Mercy Regional Medical Center on July 23, 2012 following an extended illness.

He was born in Martins Ferry, Ohio on October 16, 1950 and was a 1968 graduate of Bellaire High School.

Randy went on to serve in the United States Air Force where he served as an Air Traffic Control Specialist attached to the 2032nd Communications Squadron. Holding the rank of Sergeant, he fulfilled duty assignments in Texas, Taiwan, and Ohio.

Following his discharge from the military he served as a journeyman air traffic controller with the Federal Aviation Administration at its Cleveland Air Route Control Center in Oberlin. He later worked as a dispatcher and fleet manager in the trucking industry.

Mr. Burgy was a passionate golfer who also enjoyed boating. He had previously played fast pitch softball for the Lorain Adult Softball League.

Survivors include his wife of 42 � year Cheryl (nee Marx), his son Justin residing in Amherst, his sister Penny Williams of St. Clairesville, Ohio, his brother Kevin (Colleen) Burgy of Lansing, Ohio, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Harold W. and Laura Lee (nee Porter) Burgy, by his paternal grandparents Bert and Laura Burgy, by his maternal grandparents Thomas and Lucille Porter, and by his brother-in-law Donald Williams.

Visitation will be observed Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain. Graveside services with full military honors will be conducted at a later date.
