Mary Ellen ''Gram'' Himes, 96, Avid Sports Fan

Mary Ellen Himes "Gram", 96, of Lorain, died at her home on Friday April 15, 2011 surrounded by her family.

She was born and raised in Pennsylvania spending most of her time in the Ehrenfeld area. She lived in the Lorain area for the past 30 years.

She was an avid sports fan and most enjoyed watching the Cleveland Indians and Pittsburgh Steelers. She was a member of the Eastern Star and loyal employee of Penn Traffic Department Store in Johnstown, PA. Mary also enjoyed bird watching and jigsaw puzzles. She dedicated her life to caring for her family.

She is survived by four granddaughters Paula (Dean) Kawasaki of Phoenix, Arizona, Susan (Ragaie) Kolta of Westlake, Michele Henes of Lorain and Patricia (Ben) Solis of Canton, Michigan, great grandchildren Katie, Jill and Emily Henes, Darcie and Russell Parsons, Maggie and Matt Murray, Jennifer, Laura and Jeff Kawasaki and Ben and Tony Solis, several nieces and nephews and loyal friends and caregivers Mary Nahm, Erica Paslawski and Jan Kearns, all of Lorain.

She was preceded in death by her husband Edward Himes, daughter Joan Terek (nee Himes), son-in-law Michael Terek, grandson-in-law Edwin Henes, parents George and Susan Stigerts (nee Boyle), brothers Jack and Ray Stigerts and sisters Alberta Banks and Thelma Bretz.

The family will receive friends Wednesday 4-7 pm at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain. A graveside funeral will be held on Thursday at 10:30 am at Ridge Hill Memorial Park, 44805 N. Ridge Rd, Amherst Township. (Please meet at the cemetery) The Rev. Janet Long, pastor of Washington Avenue Christian Church Disciples of Christ in Elyria, will preside. At the conclusion of services the family invites their friends to join them in fellowship at the Croatian Club, 4846 Oberlin Ave., Lorain.
