Walter Fabian, 83, WW II Veteran, York International Retiree, certified master gardener

Photo of Walter Fabian Walter Fabian, 83, of Elyria Township, died suddenly Sunday, June 8, 2003 in the emergency room at EMH Regional Medical Center in Elyria. He was born May 24, 1920 in Jackson Township, Ohio and had resided in Elyria Township for the past 54 years moving from Elyria.

Mr. Fabian served with the US Army during World War II as a sergeant in the 53rd Coast Artillery Regiment. He saw action in the Rhineland and Central Europe.

He worked at the Cambridge Glass Company in Cambridge, Ohio in glassware manufacturing. He worked at York International in Elyria as a welder for 43 years retiring 1982.

Mr. Fabian was a member of St. George Serbian Orthodox Church in Lorain and a member and past master of the North Elyria Grange. He was a former Boy Scout leader of troop #139 in Elyria.

He was a certified master gardener, and enjoyed gardening and his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Marjorie (nee Mizikar), daughters Marilyn Szeto of Lorain and Marla Bartolotta of Amherst, sons Walter J. Fabian Jr., of Elyria and Jerry Fabian of Sheffield Lake, 10 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, sisters Isabel Johnson, Helen Fabian, Marcella Shepherd and Connie Powers, all of Cambridge, Ohio, brothers Frank Fabian Jr., Henry Fabian and James Fabian, all of Cambridge, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Frances (nee Spratik) Fabian, sisters Lucille Anderson, Beverly Fiztgerald, Lillian Lucas and Frances Hutchison.

Friends may call Tuesday, June 10, 2003 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. and Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of funeral services at 11:00 a.m. at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain. The Rev. Milorad Orlich, pastor of St. George Serbian Orthodox Church of Lorain, will officiate. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park in Amherst Township with military honors by the Amherst Veterans Military Honor Guard.
