Michael John Honoshofsky, 87, Molder

Michael John Honoshofsky age 87 of Elyria passed away Tuesday in Welcome Nursing Home in Oberlin after a short illness.

He was born July 9, 1915 in Westmoreland, Pa. living in Elyria since 1937. He is a member of the First United Methodist Church in Elyria for many years.

He was employed at the Elyria Foundry as a molder for 42 yrs. before retiring in 1980. Mr. Honoshofsky raised rabbits & Cavy (Guineas Pigs) for many many years starting at the young age of 14. He was show Supt. in the Rabbit Dept. of the Lorain County Fair for 29yrs. He has shown rabbits, guineas pigs, & Poultry at the fair since 1929. At one point while supplying guineas pigs for pet markets & laboratories Throughout the U.S., England and Europe, he had over 1400 breeders. He is a life member of the Am. Rabbit Breeders Assoc., Lorain Co. Rabbit & Cavy Breeders Assoc. Am. Cavy Breeders Assoc., Ohio State Rabbit Breeders Assoc. and inducted into their Hall of Fame in 1973. Also the Ohio Cavy Club.

Besides animals he enjoyed visiting with family & friends, making yard decorations, and his flower and vegetable gardens.

He is survived by 2 Sons Michael of LaGrange, and Robert of Oberlin, 4 Grand Children & 4 Great Grandchildren, 1 Brother Steve Honis of Elyria, and long time Companion Viva Jean Kline.

He is proceeded in death by his wife Ema Lou in 1999, 3 Brothers George, Andy, & John, Sister Mary, Anne, & Elizabeth and a grandson

Friends may call in the Blackburn Funeral Home 1021 Main St. Grafton Thursday 2-4 & 7-9 pm with funeral services in the funeral home Friday at 10:30am with Rev. pastor of the First United Methodist Church of Elyria.

Burial will be in Ridge Hill Memory Gardens, Amherst.
