Jean Russell Dixon, 81, Avid Traveler

Jean Russell Dixon (nee Fitzsommons) 80 of Avon Lake, formerly of Lakewood and Rocky River, passed away, at her home, Monday, October 21, from complications of diabetes. Mrs. Dixon was born, October 23, 1920 in Lakewood and had lived in Avon Lake since 1947.

Mrs. Dixon was a homemaker, a graduate of Rocky River High School and attended the Darvis School of Fashion Design in Cleveland. She was a member of the Avon Lake United Church of Christ, and a 50 year member of the Church's Ladies Group. Mrs. Dixon traveled to many places including Ireland, Italy, New Zealand, Australia and throughout the United States. Most recently she had taken bus day trips. She also enjoyed time spent at her trailer in West Salem Ohio and spending time at her mobile home in Santa Rosa Beach, Florida. Other interests included, reading to newspaper, sewing, gardening, shopping and spending time with family and friends.

Mrs. Dixon is survived by two sons, Craig J. Russell (Kris) of Collingwood, New Zealand and Gary L. Russell (Sharon) of Avon Lake, and daughter Jennifer E. Smolinski (Rick) of Strongsville. Other survivors include 6 granddaughters, Lynly, Emily, Holly, Dixie, Alexandra and Samantha and a sister Pat Kellogg of Santa Rosa Beach, FL. She is preceded in death by her 1st husband, Delwin J. Russell in 1971 and her 2nd husband Walter Dixon in 1979. She was also preceded in death by two sons, D.J. Russell and Scott Russell; her parents, Sam B. and Hazel S. (nee Saunders) Fitzsimmons and brother Sam Fitzsimmons.

A Memorial Service will be held in Avon Lake United Church of Christ at a time to be announced. Arrangements are by the BUSCH-BURMEISTER FAMILY CHAPEL. Memorials may be forwarded to the Avon Lake United Church of Christ, 32801 Electric Blvd., Avon Lake 44012.
