Francis Charles Yurch, 85, Enjoyed Fishing, Gardening and Las Vegas

Francis Charles Yurch, 86, of Lorain died Monday, October 21, 2002 at New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph, Lorain, following a lengthy illness.

Born February 4, 1926 in Johnstown, PA, he moved to Lorain in 1944.

He served in the United States Army during WWII and the Korean War as a Corporal.

Francis was employed in the Blast Furnace Maintenance Dept. of Lorain Works US Steel for 27 years, retiring in 1974. He was a member of ST. John the Baptist Church, Lorain, United Steelworkers Union Local #1104, life member of the Disabled American Veterans Louis Paul Proy Chapter #20 and enjoyed fishing, gardening and Las Vegas.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Carolyn (nee Lugar); 2 sons: John J. Yurch, Charles A. Yurch, both of Avon Lake, daughter: Louise Zimmerman of Lorain, 4 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, 4 sisters: Mary Tomak, Katherine Custer, Irene Smith all of Johnstown, PA and Caroline Lumnitzer of San Diego, CA.

He was preceded in death by his parents: John and Elizabeth (nee Sima) Yurch; brothers, Andrew Yurch, John Yurch; and sister Ann Maneska.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, October 22, 2002 from 6-9 p.m. in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain. Services will be held on Wednesday, October 23, 2002 at 9:00 a.m. in the funeral home followed by mass at 9:30 a.m. at St. John Catholic Church, 2143 Homewood Drive, Lorain. Rev. Fr. Thomas Smith will officiate. Burial will follow in Resthaven Memory Gardens, Avon. Military honors will be conducted by the Disabled American Veterans, Louis Paul Proy Chapter 20.
