Paul S. Mager, 73, Subway Coal Company Owner

Paul S. Mager, age 73, of Amherst Twp., died Thursday, August 16, 2001 at EMH Regional Medical Center after a lengthy illness.

He was born on July 14, 1928 in Keisterville, PA and came to Lorain with his family as a baby. He graduated from Lorain High School in 1946. He began working in his father's coal supply business while in high school in 1944. He owned and operated the Subway Coal Company in Lorain until retiring in 1980. He also served as a building inspector for the City of Lorain from 1974 to 1976 and as a Rehabilitation Specialist for the Lorain Community Development Department from 1979 to 1983.

He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Lorain and was a 55 year member of the Slovak Catholic Sokols Assembly 177. He was also formerly active in the Lions Club.

Surviving is his wife of 50 years, the former Mary B. Mariotti; five daughters: Marie Prager of Cape Elizabeth, Maine, Sandra Mager of Amherst Twp., Susan Goldstein of Westport, Connecticut, Paulette Mager of Amherst Twp. and Michele Mager of Westlake; son: Paul S. Mager of Amherst; 5 grandchildren, 2 sisters: Mary Garwell and Anna Pelton, both of Lorain. He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Sophie (nee Mudry) Mager; brothers: Joseph in 1971, John and George and sisters: Sophie Kintler and Elizabeth Rueber.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, August 19, 2001 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Ave., Lorain where services will be held Monday, August 20, 2001 at 9:30 a.m. Funeral Mass will follow at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Rev. Father David Novak, pastor will officiate. Entombment will follow in Resurrection Mausoleum at Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
