Put the Garden to Sleep Party
Join us Saturday, October 7 at 10am to Noon to get the garden ready for winter. Clear the beds, plant winter crops, take home any remaining vegetables and enjoy a well-deserved slice of pizza at 11:30 am (while supplies last). This program is for ages 3 and up with a caregiver. Monday, October 9, 2017 - Columbus Day - We are open our regular hours for that day.

Stitch Niche
Monday, October 9 from 6:30-8:30 pm, bring your knitting or crocheting project and enjoy the company of fellow needlework enthusiasts in the Lakeshore Room. Our presenter, Valerie Dillard, will be available to help those who are just beginning to those with more experience. Bring knitting needles (size 9 or 10) or crochet hook (size G or H). This program is for ages 16 and up! This program is held monthly with other dates on 11/13 & 12/11.

Tea Time Book Club
Join us on Tuesday, October 10 at 2:00 pm in the McMahan Room for Tea Time Book Club! You are invited for an afternoon of tea, cookies, and friendly discussion about a great book. Registration is required for this program at www.alpl.org or at our Information Desk.

Jr. Tree House Club

Tween Crafterdark
Join us on Wednesday, October 11 from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. for this fun evening of slime crafting! Since we will need more time for this awesome craft, we're moving it to the nighttime! We'll be making gross, slippery slime! Registration is required for this program at www.alpl.org.

Bounce, Wiggle, Giggle, Cuddle!
Thursday, October 12 from 6:30-7:30 pm in the McMahan Room, join us for this fun program! Bounce, Wiggle, Giggle, Cuddle! is a special class for our tiniest babies and their adult cuddlers! Join Miss Kim for an hour of fun as we sing songs, learn fun lap sits and explore sensory activities designed to promote age-appropriate socialization and developmental growth. Bounce, Wiggle, Giggle, Run!
Friday, October 13 from 10:30-11:30 am in the McMahan Room, join us for this fun program! Can't sit still? No problem. Bounce, Wiggle, Giggle, RUN! Is a special class for our wee walkers and their adult guest(s)! Join Miss Kim for an hour of fun as we sing songs, learn fingers plays, use instruments and explore sensory activities designed to promote social interaction and stimulate developmental growth. Family Yoga - Goodbye Summer, Hello Fall!
Join us on Saturday, October 14 from 10-10:45 a.m. for this fun family yoga class! Through yoga poses, breath work, meditation, and games, children and their caregivers will learn how to incorporate the principles of yoga into their daily lives. Learn body awareness and tools to help develop positive coping skills. This is presented by Yoga Sprouts in collaboration with 3 Sisters Yoga of Avon. For ages 4-8 years old with a caregiver. Remembering World War I
Monday, October 16, 7-8:00 pm in the McMahan Room, come to our October discussion. This year marks the 100th anniversary of the American entry into World War I. Join us for a special presentation: The March Toward Total War: Germany's Doctrine of Unrestricted Submarine Warfare and the Sinking of the R.M.S. Lusitania. Professor Emeritus George N. Vourlojianis Ph.D., will talk about the introduction and use of the submarine as a terror weapon, with emphasis on Germany's sinking of the passenger liner Lusitania. Funding for this program is made possible in part by the Ohio Humanities.

Anime Club
Interested in Anime and Manga? Join our Anime Club! We meet every third Tuesday at 3:30 - 5pm of the month. Cosplay is welcome. This program is for ages 12-17.

Discover Your Past: Genealogy Basics
Tuesday, October 17, 7-8:00pm in the McMahan Room at 7:00 - 8:30 pm in the Waugaman Gallery, join one of our ALPL librarian and genealogist Laura Ploenzke as she explains how to get started in genealogy, Library resources, and more! North Coast Business Connection Marketing Update and Meet-up
Do you have a local business? Are you thinking of starting one? Find out the latest and best ways to market and grow your business, and meet your neighbors who are in the same boat. Come to one session (we have both morning and evening options) with local marketing professional Joe Archacki, founder of Mainstreet Growth LLC. Registration for these programs is required.

Bookin' & Cookin'
Wednesdays from 1-2:00pm October 18 in the McMahon Room begins our monthly cookbook club! Each month participants will select recipes from the Library's cookbook collection. The following month we will meet to sample our culinary creations and chat about cooking. Registration is required for this event at www.alpl.org.

Paws to Read
Wednesday, October 18 from 4 - 6 pm to Noon in the Story Time Room is your chance to read to someone other than your mom or dad! Sign up for a 15 minute time slot to read with a dog from Therapy Dogs International or Pet Partners. Dogs make the best listeners! This program is for Grades K-4. Tree House Club
We'll be meeting in Discovery Works for The Amazing Owl - Inside Out, on Wednesday, October 18 from 4-5:00 pm. You'll get to dissect owl pellets and discover what Mr. Owl ate the day before. Registration is required for this event beginning October 11th by going to www.alpl.org.

Between the Pages
Tweens, join us on Thursday, October 19 from 7-8:00 pm! We know you like to read YA books and sometimes you read stuff from J Fiction, too! Sybil and Gina have partnered up to present a special tween-only fall book club. Read some classics in Young Adult and Children's Literature, specifically chosen for your age group. Pick up your book and register at the Children's desk 3 weeks prior to each discussion. Ages 10-12.

Boo By The Woods
Saturday, October 21 from 6-9:00 pm, the City of Avon Lake and Avon Lake Public Library have partnered to offer a variety of spooktacular activities for kids of all ages! Tickets for the Haunted Trail are sold out, but there are many other crafts, entertainment, food, and more free to all to enjoy! We've called in the Ghostbusters, Star Wars characters, a couple princesses and more! There'll also be a dance party with tunes from our DJ! Also enjoy pumpkin decorating, face painting, crafts, a few food trucks, kettle corn, and magician! Don't forget we'll have Spooky Storytime in the children's area for those who want to hear a kid-friendly twisted tale! For more information, visit www.avonlake.org.

Boo By The Woods: Picture Books...That Go Bump in the Night!
Saturday, October 21 at 6:30, 7:30, and 8:30 pm, in tandem with Boo By the Woods and for those not quite ready to brave the haunted trail, join us in the Children's Department for creepy stories and songs. We'll turn the lights down, use our creepiest voices and read aloud some of our favorite goosebump-inducing picture books. These stories are geared for ages 4-6, but all ages are welcome! No registration is required. Numbered tickets are available beginning 15 minutes before each scheduled time.

Art of Presentation
Monday, October 23 from 6:30 - 8:30 pm in the Waugaman Gallery. Need to make a presentation? The skills to present ideas clearly and communicate effectively are important in today's world. Local training and development professional Tony J. Tomanek will start with effective presentation strategies, take us through adult learning styles, cover do's and don'ts of using "slide share" and getting delivery and timing right.

Music Enrichment
On Monday, October 23 at 1:30pm in the Story Time Room, we're worked with Music on a Mission to develop this fun and engaging musical program designed for children with special needs and their families. This is for ages 3-7 and siblings are welcome! Registration is required for this event at www.alpl.org or register in-person at the Library.

Jr. Tree House Club
Tuesday, October 24 at 4:00 pm, we'll find out is it a solid? A liquid? No, it's Oobleck! Explore the amazing properties of ooey-gooey Oobleck with a Halloween twist! Registration is required for this program at www.alpl.org.

Claymates Art Club
Join us on Wednesday, October 25 from 7-8 p.m. for this program inspired by Dev Petty's new picture book, Claymates featuring two balls of clay that can become anything - even best friends. Use your own ball of clay to create a one-of-a-kind masterpiece to take home with you. This could get messy...so please dress appropriately. This program is for kids in grades 3-6.

It's Technology Time!
Join us for this technology series on Wednesday's October 25th, November 1st & 8th that takes you on a 3-part tour through the Library's growing staple of electronic services and devices. Survey the current landscape of phones, tables, laptops and all the ways you can connect to us, and the rest of the world. Halloween Lock-In
Join us on Friday, October 27 from 6-10:00 p.m. to enjoy the entire building as the Library becomes a teen-only zone after hours! Decorate a pumpkin, take part in the costume contest, or play zombies vs. humans. The Library is yours - you dictate the fun! Parents must turn in permission slips in person and $2.00 for pizza by Friday, October 20th. This program is for ages 12-17.

Tree House Club
Join us Wednesday, November 1st in the DiscoveryWorks Loft Wednesday for this for Tree House Club. This program session is all about Silly Sounds! Create a musical membranophone using a water bottle and paper tube! Registration for this program begins Wednesday, October 25th.

Pokemon Open Play:
Join us on Wednesday, November 1st from 4 - 6:00 pm to bring, play, or trade your Pokémon cards with other kids.

It's International Games Week!
Thursday, November 2nd from 3-5pm we'll be holding a Super Smash Bros. Tournament!! International Games Day is now International Games Week! That's right, we'll be celebrating the joy of gaming with libraries around the world every day from Monday - Thursday in the Teen section. At the end of the week, we'll finish off with the Super Smash Bros. Brawl tournament! This program is for ages 12-17 years.

Adapted Story Time
Join us for our adapted story time on Saturday, November 4 at 10:30 am in the Story Time Room. Children with varying learning styles and abilities learn together in a safe, supportive environment where respect and appreciation for differences is encouraged. This 20 minute story time is followed by an open play time for socialization and designed for children who may not be successful in a typical story time. Content is geared for ages 3-7 years old, but all ages are welcome with a participating adult. Siblings welcome. Registration is required for this program.

Step-Up Club
Our story time for 4, 5, & 6 years olds is held every Thursday from now through December 7th at both 10:00 am and 1:30 pm. We have a blast for 45 minutes of story time fun! Numbered tickets are available, beginning 15 minutes before each scheduled time. Tickets are picked up on a first-come, first-served basis each week.

Friends of Avon Lake Public Library Annual Used Book Sale
In the Waugaman Gallery on both Friday, November 3rd from 10 am to 5 pm and Saturday, November 4th from 10 am to 4 pm, find book treasures galore!
