August 7, 2014 — The Association of Community College Trustees (ACCT) has named President Roy Church as the Chief Executive Officer of the Year for the central region.

"His passion for the comprehensive community college mission has developed LCCC into a dynamic institution of higher education rooted in serving the most important needs and opportunities of this community," said Larry Goodman, chairman of LCCC's Board of Trustees.

The LCCC Board nominated Church for the award. Board members are: Goodman, Ben Fligner, vice chair; Judge Joseph Cirigliano, Michael Sherman, Terry Goode, Sanford Washington, Teresa Gardner and Don Ortner.

With this regional award Church will be one of five community college CEO's from across the country that will be eligible to win the ACCT's national CEO of the Year award in October at the organization's annual leadership conference.

The ACCT also names recipients of its annual regional awards for community college trustees, equity programs, faculty members and professional board staff members.

ACCT's Regional Awards recognize the tremendous contributions made by trustees, equity programs, chief executive officers, faculty members and professional board staff.

"Community colleges have taken on new roles and increased responsibilities in recent years," said ACCT Chair and Westchester County Community College Trustee LeRoy W. Mitchell. "The individuals who have been selected to receive this important recognition are truly vital to their communities and regions."

The LCCC Board agreed with this assessment in nominating Church for the regional award.

"Dr. Church's leadership has resulted in the development, implementation and success of several innovative, sustainable programs that are having a meaningful impact on our community and region," Goodman said. "A true proponent of the comprehensive mission of community colleges, Dr. Church's leadership has developed LCCC into an engine for building talent and growing jobs."

Church, who is appreciative of the nomination and award, said it validates the great work everyone at LCCC is doing on behalf of its students and the community.

"I am truly honored to receive this award and I accept it on behalf of everyone at LCCC," Church said. "Without the tireless work by the great team we have at LCCC we could not accomplish all that we have set out to do."
Goodman said nominating Church for the award was an easy decision.

"He (Church) has transformed the institution into a nationally-recognized community college serving the needs of the community across its four cornerstones of education, economic, community and cultural development," Goodman said.

Through his 26 years as president of LCCC, Goodman noted, the college has become a national leader in areas of student completion, entrepreneurship and commercialization.

"His commitment to people is evidenced by his ability to engage and inspire others to see and pursue possibilities," Goodman said.

Church sits on many national, state and regional boards and is often sought for his input on community college, entrepreneurship and commercialization issues.
