Wellington Historic District - McCormick's Role |
 |
Message: |
The Wellington Historic District is listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) as an officially recognized Historic District. It was added to the register in 1978 and consists of 200 buildings. 116 of these buildings are either listed individually or listed as a contributing building on the National Register. McCormick Middle School is not individually listed, but it is definitely an important anchor and contributing building.
Demolishing McCormick Middle School would produce a gaping hole in the community fabric that many have spent countless years trying to maintain and protect. This is a neighborhood that has mostly remained architecturally unaltered from the 1850’s though the 1940’s.
Residents of Wellington, homeowners located south of Herrick Ave. (State Route 18) and especially thoes within and around the Wellington Historic District should be concerned with the possible loss of such a prominent piece of our community.
Follow the link below to view an interactive map of the Wellington Historic District. The push-pins represent only a partial listing of these buildings. Click on each icon for additional building details. Zoom in on McCormick Middle School to see the different building sections and options of what is possible.
