| There is no intent to confuse the issue, only educate. All of the posts are opinions based on research, OSFC documentation and my personal involvement on the Facilities Committee for over 2 years. I really have no control over which lever someone pulls during an election.
All of the posts are meant to get the community to think of alternative ideas, help people get started with their own research and create dialogue. Preferably without personal attacks and attempted guilt trips.
I was at the Metro Park meeting and I heard many of those in attendance publicly voice their opinion that a feasibilty study should be conducted. You were not at this meeting.
I was at one of the community meetings held in the McCormick auditorium and of the 12+ people in attendance, again, many were interested in the details of a feasibility study. Again, you were not at this meeting. A comment was also made at the meeting that people want the details and all of the information so they can make informed decisions. If they find out that something was skipped or withheld, they will more than likely cease to provide any future support.
I did speak with Mr. Scruci and voiced my opinions. You were not there. I also e-mailed him my ideas and concerns.
Yes, consession were made. It is wonderful that Westwood will continue to be used as an educational facility. It wasn't kept by choice, only by necessity to lower the mill tax. Yes, the bond issue has been lowered, but at the cost of extending the length of the bond by 10 more years to 37 years. That's over three whole school classes that will pass through the district before the bond is repaid. I heard many people comment that a tax this long would be out of the question.
The Zero Interest stimulus money awarded to our district is also great news, but the Department of Education recommendeds using these funds for modernization and renovation of existing facilities, not new construction.
The auditorium was removed from the plan, which is really unfortunate, because it's an essential item for our school and community. The renovation of McCormick would include the existing auditorium. Actually, the OSFC would co-fund a portion of this renovation.
We have become a "throw-away" society. If you haven't seen the way things are headed, the future of our children is a life in a "sustainable society".
This is a perfect time to change our current way of "disposable" thinking and actually embrace what we are teaching our children. They are learning about reducing, reusing and recycling in the same schools that we are going to abandon and demolish. In my opinion, it's kind of ironic. |
