Spay & Neuter Myths

Spay and Neuter Myths

Myth #1: My pet will get fat and lazy.
Fact #1: Obesity in pets is primarily due to excessive feeding by owners.

Myth #2: My dog will be less protective.
Fact #2: Spaying or neutering does not affect a dogs natural instinct to protect. A dog's personality is formed more by genetics and environment than sex hormones.

Myth #3: It's too expensive to have my pet spayed or neutered.
Fact #3: The procedure is generally significantly less expensive than feeding and caring for the litter even if the animals eventually go to other homes.

Myth #4: There is no need to spay and neuter purebreds.
Fact #4: More than one in four homeless dogs in shelters are purebreds. Millions of purebreds are put to sleep every year because there simply are not enough homes for them.

Myth #5: It's better to wait until after my pets first litter.
Fact #5: Medical evidence indicates the opposite. It is healthier for the female pet to be spayed before her first litter and this prevents unwanted litters.
