Re: Sheffield Lake Town Center
Message:
The 15,000 vehicles is a blatant lie, not an oversight, a lie.
Here is your link to the 7750 vehicle traffic daily at that intersection. I'll even give you the 4000 or so on Lake Breeze (Which was counted at the tracks, so people going to and from work from wards 3 and 4 whom use Lake Breeze to get to work are included)
http://www.noaca.org/lorain006.pdf
These are NOACA numbers that our mayor claims to be a part of. Why didn't he get his own numbers? Why Embellish?
Lake and Lake Breeze has the same traffic count as Abbe & Lake, yet there is an empty Restaurant just east of Abbe and one at the corner of Lake and Abbe.
We went from 2 drive thru carryouts to NONE.
Corner of 83 and Lake in Avon Lake only has COMBINED 10,000 traffic count.
The numbers don't add up but we are expected to believe those numbers? We are expected to believe the people of Sheffield Lake want to pay rent for a facility that is used 40 hours a week and is closed every federal holiday versus a facility that we already paid for?
I was all for the city acquiring the center. It made sense but the plan fell apart and things were done just to do them. No long term decision making involved whatsoever. Everything short term. Then the mayor states we never planned on making money? What about the $700,000 gift Ratner gave the city? That isn't for the Mayors discretional use, that was for the city. With no business plan and no experience we are destroying our asset. Now, we have a developer who runs Apartment houses throughout the cleveland area. Declines to say what tenants are considering the center? There are no national chains coming in.
The best thing they could do with that center is offer open spaces to residents who want to give it a shot. Give them 1 year rent free. Their part is they have to IMPROVE their storefront with their own money commensurate with a fair and equitable rent schedule. If after a year, they can't start paying rent, what are we out? AN IMPROVED STORE FRONT? If they do make it, WOW, Jobs and a business thriving in the center. GEEZE, it isn't rocket science, it's plain ole good business sense, of which we are lacking emmensly in this administration.
