Senator Announces State Grant to Promote Job Creation in Lorain County, NE Ohio
The state Thomas Edison Program was created to provide grants to foster research, development or technology transfer efforts involving enterprises and education institutions that will lead to the creation of jobs. According to Senator Armbruster, the GLIDE effort in Lorain is the just the kind of project the state had in mind when it made Edison grants available. GLIDE is a comprehensive regional innovation center and resource hub that supports business startups in the region by providing a menu of important services. The program at LCCC has been in operation since May of 2001. Since its inception, GLIDE has worked with more than 500 companies and entrepreneurs, providing everything from state-of-the-art facilities for teleconferencing, group presentations, seminars and focus groups, to direct access to business professionals, LCCC faculty and outside consultants who can help companies with a variety of startup services, including developing a business plan, technology transfer, marketing assistance, connections to debt financing sources, early-stage and venture capital funding, and intellectual property assistance, among other things.
“GLIDE is a great engine for economic growth in our region. In fact, companies who have taken advantage of GLIDE’s services over the past five years have created more than 250 new jobs, and I am confident that the progress will continue in the years to come,” Armbruster said. “As we work to revitalize our economy, we need to support existing industries and maintain the jobs we have, all the while capitalizing on potential companies and industries with high-growth potential that will help to create the jobs of the future. That is exactly why the state needs to support cooperative, regional efforts like GLIDE.”
