Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Volunteers Needed
Last year, more than 70,000 Americans gave something to the IRS and can’t wait to do it again this year. What did they give? Their time. The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program trains volunteers to prepare simple federal and state tax returns for low-income, elderly, individuals with disabilities and non-English speaking taxpayers. Tax returns are prepared at no cost and training is free.
Anyone can volunteer. No tax accounting experience is necessary, only a desire to help others in need. VITA volunteers participate in a free short training session, in class, on-line or through self-study. Once certified, volunteers are assigned to neighborhood community centers, libraries, or churches. Lorain County VITA sites use computers to prepare and transmit tax returns. The benefits of participating in VITA include training and experience in basic tax preparation and use of tax prep software. Additional volunteer opportunities include volunteer site coordinators, volunteer greeter and volunteer screener. Bi-lingual skills (Spanish) especially needed.
To get in contact with questions, or to volunteer, e-mail us at loraincountyeitc@yahoo.com or call Leon Mason at 1-800-234-6413. Please get back to one of the above by December 29, 2006.
