Monthly Pet Awareness Tips

  1. January – Dog License Renewal & Pet Vaccine Reminder Month
January is Dog License Renewal & Pet Vaccine Reminder Month. Please be responsible and get your dog’s license renewed. If he should get lost, this will help in him finding his way back to you and your family. Also remember to keep your pets updated on their yearly shots. You want them around a long time, so keep them healthy!

  2. February – Responsible Pet Owner & Spay/Neuter Awareness Month
February is Responsible Pet Owner & Spay/Neuter Awareness Month. Please be responsible by getting your pets spayed & neutered as soon as they’re old enough. Besides running the risk of more homeless puppies and kittens, this also helps keep your pets healthier and they tend to live longer, more active lives!

  3. March – Heartworm Prevention Month
March is Heartworm Prevention Month. Please have your pets checked for heartworm and keep them on monthly preventative medicine. One monthly pill will keep your pets happy and healthy and no in danger of getting this killing disease!

  4. April – Prevention of Animal Cruelty Month
April is Prevention of Animal Cruelty Month. Please be responsible and report anything that looks like animal cruelty, neglect and abuse to your local law enforcement. If no response, please call this radio station. Please do not let this type of cruelty to unreported!

  5. May – National Food Drive for Homeless Pets Month
May is National Food Drive for Homeless Pets Month. The next time you’re at the grocery store picking up a bag of pet food for your own pets, please purchase an extra bag and donate it to your local pet shelter. If you’re not sure where to donate, please call (440) 774-1320, Ext. 23. One bag of pet food goes a long way for homeless pets in need!

  6. June – Adopt A Shelter Cat Month
June is Adopt A Shelter Cat Month. If you’re considering making an addition to your family in the way of a pet, please consider a homeless cat or kitten. They come in all sizes, shapes and colors and give back an abundance of unconditional love.

  7. July – Summer Safety for Pets Month
July is Summer Safety for Pets Month. Please be responsible and do not leave your pets unattended in your car during extreme high temperatures. If you yourself own an outdoor dog, or if you see an outdoor dog that is constantly tired and has no energy, please do something immediately – this could be signs of heat stroke.

  8. August – Animal ID Awareness Month
August is Animal ID Awareness Month. Please be responsible and make sure your pets are wearing collars with your name and phone number. If they get lost, this will help speed up their return to you and your family. You may also want to consider the microchip system…it’s quick, safe and foolproof!

  9. September – Companion Pets for the Elderly Month
September is Companion Pets for the Elderly Month. If you know an elderly person who lives alone and would love some companionship, please consider talking to them about adopting a homeless pet. This is very therapeutic and will give them something to look forward to each and every day and also provides a sense of purpose and belonging.

  10. October – Adopt A Shelter Dog Month
October is Adopt A Shelter Dog Month. Why spend a lot of money at the pet store when you can buy yourself a lifetime of unconditional love and companionship by opening your heart and home to a homeless dog. The rewards are endless and you can find out with each nuzzle of that cold, wet nose!

  11. November – Animal Shelter Appreciation Month
November is Animal Shelter Appreciation Month. If you want to do something nice for animals, something that will make you feel good at the end of the day, send a donation to your local animal shelter. You could also volunteer to help with a local shelter in their adoption or fundraising efforts. For more information, please call (440) 774-1320, Ext. 23.

  12. December – Adopt A Senior Pet Month
December is Adopt A Senior Pet Month. Puppies and kittens are cute, but everyone has to grow up sometime. Senior pets have been around the block a time or two and most are overlooked when families are thinking of taking in a family pet. Consider a senior dog or cat…they’ve been around the block a time or two and have many more years of unconditional love to give you and your family. The rewards are endless!
