Domer Richter Sr., 81, Enjoyed Gardening and Listening to Music

Domer Richter Sr. age 81, of Lorain, died Tuesday, April 12, 2005 at Community Health Partners Hospital and Surgical Center - West, Lorain, following a lengthy illness.

Born February 14, 1924 in Normalville, PA, he moved to Lorain in 1957. He later was a resident of Amherst and Sheffield Lake, before returning to Lorain 3 years ago.

He served as a Technician 5 Grade in the US Army during World War II, participating in the battles and campaigns of Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe. He received the Good Conduct Medal, Meritorious Unit Award, European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, Eastern Campaign Medal with 5 Bronze Stars, and the World War II Victory Medal.

Domer worked at Lorain Works US Steel in the Open Hearth as a 1st and 2nd helper, retiring in 1972.

He was a member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Lorain, the United Steelworkers Union Local #1104, a life member of Veteran of Foreign Wars, Post # 8686, of Sheffield Lake, a member and past president of the Open Hearth Club, Lorain.

He enjoyed gardening, growing flowers, listening to music, cooking and spending time with his family and friends.

Surviving are his sons, Domer Jr. of Sheffield Lake, Bryan of Ann Arbor, MI, Ron of Arnold, PA, daughters, Faye Freeman and Beverly Ehlers both of Lorain, Brenda DeWitt of Roan Mountain, TN, and Linda Leasure of Arnold, PA, 21 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren, a brother, Frank Richter Jr. of Indian Head, PA, and sisters, Alesha Laning and Nettie Laws, both of Normalville, PA.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Francis E. (nee Schurg) Richter in 2002, his daughter, Diane J. May, in 1994, his parents Frank Richter Sr. and Etta (nee Nicholson) Richter, brothers, Charles Richter, Austin Richter, sisters, Hazel Wengrove, Bertha Shaltz, Minnie Richter, and Catherine "Kitty" Lawyer.

The family will receive friends on Friday, April 15, 2005, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain. The family will also receive friends on Saturday from 1:30 p.m. until the time of funeral services at 2:00 p.m. at First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 603 Washington Avenue, Lorain. Rev. Jimmy Madsen, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain. The Veteran of Foreign Wars, Post # 451 of Lorain will conduct full military honors.
