Peter Chula, 94, Owner/Operator of Peter Chula Painting Contract Company

Photo of Peter Chula Peter F. Chula, age 94, of Lorain, died Wednesday, March 23, 2005 in Anchor Lodge Nursing Home.

He was born on February 14, 1911 in Lorain, Ohio and was a lifetime resident.

Growing up in Lorain, he attended Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary School and the Lorain City Schools. He was a survivor of the 1924 Lorain Tornado that destroyed the State Theater and is honored in a local documentary that retells of that event.

He was a member of St. Mary at the Lake Catholic Church in Lorain where he had served as the treasurer of its Athletic Club and also as a councilman for many years. He owned and operated the Peter Chula Painting Contracting Company for over 40 years. He retired after many years as a bank director of First Federal Bank of Lorain.

He was a member of the Lorain Chamber of Commerce, the Polish Fisherman's Club, the Knights of Columbus and sponsored Little League Baseball teams. He enjoyed fishing and golfing and registered a hole in one at Emerald Valley Golf Course.

Survivors include his daughters, Sandra Pincura of Cosa Mesa, CA and Lynne Mathews of Lorain; son, Gary Chula of Hudson, WI; 6 Grandchildren and 6 Great-Grandchildren; a sister, Bernice Bescak of Lorain.

Preceding him in death were his wife, Chella (nee Alhiser) Chula in 1978, parents, Stanley and Mary (nee Jakubouski) Ciula, sisters, Mary Nowicki, Josephine Nowicki and Veronica Bescak; brothers, Stanley Ciula, Joseph Cuila, John Ciula and Frank Chula.

The family will receive friends on Friday, March 25, 2005 from 4:00 - 7:00 pm at the Dombrowski-Volak-Riddle Funeral Home, 1939 Oberlin Avenue, Lorain. Funeral Services will be on Saturday, March 26, 2005 at 9:30 am at St. Mary at the Lake Catholic Church, 8th Street and Reid Avenue, Lorain. The Reverend Daniel Divis, pastor, will officiate. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
