Albert M. Pecora Jr. DDS, 65, Dedicated to helping the needy get proper dental care, avid hunter, enjoyed the piano, and writing

Photo of Albert M. Pecora Jr. DDS Albert M. Pecora Jr., DDS, age 65, of Wakeman died Sunday, April 27, 2003 after a sudden illness at Allen Medical Center, Oberlin.

He was born December 10, 1937 in Lorain, Ohio. He had lived in Amherst before moving to Wakeman where he had been a resident for the past 34 years.

Dr. Pecora graduated from Georgetown University Dental School, Washington DC and has practiced dentistry in Amherst for the past 39 years. The last two years he has been associated with Dr. Scott Iliff.

He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Wakeman where he played the organ for 14 years. He maintained the Marian Shrine in St. Mary Cemetery for 10 years. Dr. Pecora belonged to the American Dental Society and the Lorain County Dental Society. He was an avid hunter, naturalist, gardener, and pianist. He had facilitated a Library Reading Group and served on the board of the Wakeman Library. Dr. Pecora was an Honorary member of the Italian Americans Veterans Club; a member of the Adirondack Society, Buck Mountain Hunt Club, Long Lake, NY. and Beaver Creek Hunt Club, Amherst, Ohio. He was a writer for the Amherst News Times and storyteller for the Amherst Cable Television Network.

He had volunteered his dental services in Jerusalem for Palestinian and Israeli children. Most recently he had traveled to El Salvador for a month on a dental mission providing dental care for the poor.

Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Sandra Jean Pecora (nee Goohs), two sons, Albert Michael Pecora III of Worthington, Ohio and Anthony R. Pecora of Bay Village, three daughters: Angela Kendrick of Weddinton, NC, Paola Pecora of Avon Lake, and Gina Mirza of Chesterfield, Missouri, six grandchildren, two step grandchildren, brother Angelo Pecora of Stockbridge, MI, sister Jeanne Pecora of San Diego, CA, an aunt and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Angela (nee Miraldi) Pecora.

There will be a memorial Mass on Wednesday, April 30, 2003 at 7:00 PM at the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, 333 South Lake St., South Amherst, Ohio 44001. The Father Dennis St. Marie, pastor, Sister Edna Michael, and Father Robert Haas will concelebrate.
