Dum Scores Three Times in Career Finale
Mike Mancini, Oberlin College Athletics

Skyler Dum ended the season with a hat trick on Saturday.
November 2, 2009 -- Senior sensation Skyler Dum scored three times, including the game-winner in the second overtime to lift the Oberlin College (Website | Profile) men’s soccer team to a thrilling 3-2 victory over Wabash College on Saturday night.

However, despite the tremendous win for the Yeomen, Oberlin’s season comes to an end due to Hiram College beating Wittenberg earlier in the day to claim for the fourth and final seed in the NCAC Tournament.

“I am happy that we ended the season with a win, displaying our true character all the way to the end,” Head Coach Blake New said. “But it is still disappointing we don’t have another game to play with this great group of guys and outstanding senior class.”

Dum, who finished the season with 14 goals and 29 in his illustrious career, struck first in the 32nd minute as he cashed in a header try off a pass from Justin Norman.

The Yeomen (9-6-2, 4-4-1) would take a 2-0 lead on a defensive miscue as a missed clear by the Wabash lead to Dum being wide open on a cross from Oliver Miller-Farrell in the 62nd minute.

However, the Little Giants (9-9-1, 4-5 NCAC) wouldn’t go away quietly as two goals within a three-minute span tied the game with 15 minutes left to play.

Oberlin had multiple chances to score in regulation, but promising opportunities by Pete Sabo, Zach Lewis and Miller-Farrell all went awry.

No team had a legitimate scoring chance in the first overtime, but Dum came through once more in the 104th minute as he finished a cross from near side by Miller-Farrell into the lower right corner of the goal for the Oberlin win.

With the victory, the Yeomen have secured fifth place in the NCAC.
