The Oberlin College (Website | Profile) volleyball team tied the school record for wins in a season with 15 and set a new school record for NCAC wins in season with seven by defeating both Kenyon College and Ursuline College on Saturday afternoon in Gambier, Ohio.
The Yeowomen upended the Ladies of Kenyon in straight sets by the scores of 25-16, 25-21, and 25-13 before following suit with a sweep of Ursuline 25-18, 26-24, and 25-19.
Playing in their final matches in the crimson and gold, seniors Rita Kaplon and Tammela Platt turned in strong performances for the Yeowomen in both matches. Kaplon, a native of Yellow Springs, Ohio, dished out 30 assists against the ladies and added 34 helpers in the win over the Arrows. Platt finished the day with 33 total digs and eight service aces.
“I am happy for what we were able to accomplish this year as a team,” Head Coach Carey Cavanaugh said. “This was a special team, lead by two special seniors who will truly be missed next season. Both Tam and Rita were a part of my first recruiting class and have done an outstanding job in helping build a tradition of winning here at Oberlin.”
Rookie Laura Jessee also had nice day for the Yeowomen as she hit .364 in the first match against Kenyon and .357 against Ursuline.
Anna Frackman had nine kills on 23 swings against the Ladies, while first-year Rosie Eck capped off her strong inaugural season with the Yeowomen by finishing error free in the match with seven kills on 12 attempts (.583).
Oberlin ends the season at 15-16 overall and in fifth place in the NCAC with a mark of 7-9.
