November Events at Kendal of Oberlin

November 7, 2009 -- During the month of November, Kendal at Oberlin (Website | Profile) will be hosting a variety of events. The events include lectures, music and art. All events are free, open to the public and are held at Kendal at Oberlin 600 Kendal Drive, Oberlin, Ohio.

Lectures
On Monday, Nov. 16th at 3:30 p.m., Don Reeves presents, “Make the Grass Grow Forever: Building Soil, Clearing the Air, Sequestering the Carbon.” Reeves, a former Nebraska farmer, presents the second in a series on using soil and vegetation to remove atmosphere CO2.

On Thursday, Nov. 19th at 7:15 p.m. Dr. Hugh Floyd, Director of Choral Activities at Oberlin and Choral Director for the Akron Symphony Chorus, presents “Fourteen Minutes of Mahler, a Choral Resurrection.” He will speak about Musical Union’s Mahler performance in December and his adventures in directing choruses.

Music
On Nov. 11th at 7:15 p.m. The Harpswell Quartet including Holly Jenkins (violin), Nathan Lester (viola), Glenna Curren (cello), and Robin Jenkins (piano) will play a Brahms piano quartet and movement from a Mozart piano quartet.

On Monday, Nov. 23rd at 7:15 p.m., Artist Diploma graduate of the Oberlin Conservatory (Website | Profile)violinist, Sunho Kim, performs. She will play works by Schumann and Lutoslawski. Kim is Assistant Concertmaster of the Kansas City Symphony Orchestra.

Art
Currently on exhibit in the Kendal Gallery are the vibrant colored paintings of well-known Cleveland artist, Bonnie Dolin. On Friday, Nov. 20th at 4 p.m. there will be a gallery talk by the artist.

Opening in the Friends Gallery on Nov. 17th is a retrospective of photos by Robert Palmer. The late Palmer, an accomplished photographer, taught at the Cleveland Institute of Art and exhibited previously in the Friends Gallery. This show remains in the gallery through January 2010.

The Community Art Walls at Kendal exhibit the works of two Kendal residents through the month of November. The exhibit includes the watercolors of Louise Breese, and miniature creations by Eileen Payton.
