Oberlin Harriers Finish Third at NCAC's
Mike Mancini, Oberlin College Athletics

November 2, 2009 -- After watching the women win the North Coast Athletic Conference Championship, the Yeomen put together their own fantastic finish as they tallied 85 points, good enough to finish in third place. Today’s finish, just three points out of second place, set a new mark as the best finish in Oberlin (Website | Profile) school history.

Oberlin sophomore Stephen Williams was the first Yeomen to cross the finish line at today’s 8-kilometer championship race. Williams finished eighth overall with a time of 26:46.2.

Running on the heels of Williams was first-year standout Eric Line who finished the race in 11th place in a time of 26:53.3. In addition to finishing in the top 15, Line earned NCAC Newcomer of the Year honors with his 11th place finish, as the fastest NCAC newcomer in the field.

Also scoring for Oberlin were Derek Lange (sophomore, 20th place), David Cogswell (sophomore, 22nd place), and Justin Warner (junior, 28th place).

Head Coach Ray Appenheimer said, “I am really pleased with the way that these guys competed today. We were right behind Wabash for second place. These guys have definitely established Oberlin as one of the toughest teams in the conference, and with the way these guys work, I am confident that they are going to continue to get better with each week.”

Three runners also earned All-NCAC honors with their individual finishes today: Williams 8th, Line 11th, and Lange 20th.

The Yeomen will race again in two weeks as they travel to the NCAA Great Lakes Regional Championships on Nov. 14, 2009.
