The pledge proposal Oberlin's board came up with: they would allow the pledge to be said but only at set times they chose and not permitted to be said more than 5 times a month. Not perfect, but at least a start for all those who do wish their children to say the pledge in school with their peers. However, the pledge to be said was not the pledge recognized across our nation. Not at all. They took a red marker to the pledge and I mean they actually had a printed copy on which they marked all of the words they did not like with bright red marker. This from a town that claims to celebrate freedom of speech. The board believes it has the power, let alone the right, to rewrite our nation's pledge of allegience! This put those in favor in the position of voting it down, so no pledge for Oberlin kids. This whole thing is a big joke to them, while at the same time they enjoy the benefits America provides----benefits like free public education with a locally elected board that is supposed to be representation for the people.
