| Congratulations to the winners.
People have used the council thing as an excuse for not moving an agenda forward. Problem is no one has ever been able to articulate what the so called "agenda" looks like. What are the goals / objectives and how can they be measured? That's the difference between being reactive and proactive.
No more excuses: The administration now has Jeff and will have a majority / new council president (Kevin or Roseanne). Use this time wisely to articulate specifics so you can hit the ground running.
To the administration and those on council keep your eyes focused on this one statistic because it will determine if progress is truly being made in this city, period:
The statistic: TAX DISTRIBUTION
Residents pay 89%% while businesses pay 11%% (although it think it's dropped to 90/10). It's been that way for 10+ years.
Until that nut is cracked, everything else you do is window dressing. This city will not be able to compete with surrounding communities until this issue is dealt with because the tax distribution now provides NO FLEXIBILITY for taking on needed projects or services.
We are beholden to residential growth. We need to take our mouth off that teet and focus on other opportunities. If we don't, this city will begin to solidify our standing as a true bedroom community.
Good luck and I truly hope you succeed... |
